The Marantz PMD520 professional, dual-well cassette deck sets new standards for innovation and design. Featuring 2 independent, 3-head tape mechanisms, the PMD520 is designed to provide audio professionals with the most flexible and comprehensive cassette deck available. Two innovative features of the PMD520 are direct tape insertion/removal and easy servicing. The tape doors have been eliminated so you can insert and remove tapes with great efficiency. And servicing is easy because each mechanism (or well) can be completely removed for service while the other remains available for use.
The PMD520's stationary 3-head design lets you monitor your recordings during the recording process, so you'll know immediately if there's a defect in the cassette tape. During continuous recording, a selectable overlap-record feature can ensure uninterrupted recording when going from well to well and deck to deck, starting the next tape 3 minutes before the current tape ends.
You get a variety of choices for controlling the PMD520 remotely, two of them requiring optional hardware. The Marantz WRC220 wired remote provides complete control for playback, recording, and duplication. A custom remote can be interfaced through the deck's control I/O port (25-pin contact closures). And, a built-in record/play timer lets you start recording or playback automatically when the power is switched on.
The PMD520 makes an exceptional mix-down deck, or a number of PMD520s can be used for a small-scale duplication system. An optional balanced XLR kit (XLR520PMD) ensures easy integration into any studio environment.
You can adjust motor speed by +/- 3 percent right from the front panel. An auto bias program that automatically sets the bias, record gain, and equalization for a particular tape showcases the PMD520's efficient operation. Other key features include a loop-through output for cassette duplication, a high-speed (2x normal) duplication mode, peak-holding meters, and a tape-stop alarm.
For corporate installations, the PMD520 functions as an excellent record and playback deck because of its logging ability, AMX/Crestron compatibility, and fully independent operation and inputs/outputs. A contact closure control port grants custom control.
